you will never know what you will found
It's been ages since my last update on this blog. Many things happen in college and my life, but each thing leads me to come back. I won't give a false promise to keep update on this blog regularly, but I will keep writing if anything comes to my mind.
I was looking at my bookshelf and found many great books I love. The funny thing is, I got some of them (the best ones!) from some thrift shops with a surprisingly low price.
The first one is The Chronicles of Narnia - Special Edition.
I am a total nerd who loves fantasy stories in my childhood and never be able to buy them because I was so broke (and those books are too expensive for a broke kid like me :( ). Asking for money to my parents so I could get books is kind of unwise (better use it for paying my school loan). Now I already earn money on my own, so that was a past!
Well, I get this baby while I was scrolling on online stores, hoping to find some books with low price. Then I found a shop named RumahTokoJojo, displaying this jewel with only IDR 20.000 (around $1!!). I asked if the books are the real special edition, and they said yes. And I remember clearly I never pressed an 'add to cart' button so fast. It cost around IDR 50.000 (include shipping) and I got it!
One of my childhood dream books, fulfilled.
And the next three weeks, the shop contacted me and told if I may be interested to buy their newest arrival. I thought I will buy more since the shop has given me the book I dreamed of, and totally surprised after finding out the new arrival.
You gotta be kidding me.
The Lord of the Rings Complete Trilogy! with only IDR 50.000!! Why would I resist to buy it? I finally bought it, feeling so satisfied (plus the shop admin promised they will tell me if there are any fantasy books they have. Yay!)
It came with a very neat, soft plastic cover.
I often laugh and consider those two books as a reward for my patience. Liking something and never buy it, is a real torture. Oh, you might be interested to check the shop, here is their link. There are many good original books with low price there ;)
Dracula by Bram Stoker. A classic-vampire tale. I got it from Pasar Kangen event in Yogyakarta. You can found many nostalgic things (classic magazines, books, music-tape, old radios), and food! And I found the book in one of the old-books sellers. I got it with only IDR 25.000
I also bought some music-tapes (I still have tape-player works in my house btw)
The last thing is Bartimaeus saga.
This time, I found them while strolling in second-hand bookstores near my campus. I saw them between high book stacks, untouched. I remember reading Bartimaeus when I was still in high school, then I thought, why not buy them for my book collections? Each book costs IDR 15.000, so I got them IDR 40.000 in total (the seller gave me a discount)
Well, we never knew what we'll found right? Until now, I gradually visit second-hand bookstores, just in case, who knows what I will get?
What about you? Have you found treasure in thrift shops like me? I'd be glad to hear your story :)
